Haroun Rachid. - In the beginning of the 8th century the northwest African moors invaded Spain and conquered almost the whole Iberian Peninsula, where they remained till the middle of the 15th century. An early multi-cultural society was developing in Spain. The moors call the area "Al-Andalus". Because they tolerated other religions and cultures - different from the rest of Europe - it came to a fusion of the oriental and the occidental culture. Till today it has influenced the cultural development kinds of music developed. Because open to actual trends it has founded an own Arabic-Andalusian style in the northwest of Africa. Till today the great masters of the Algerian music teach the young musicians like Rachid Haroun how to work with the Arabic-Andalusian cultural legat.
