Because Seizer, this strict solitary person has been someone who has been worth listening to for years. He has a powerful, finely modulated tone on his tenor saxophone. The best CD's of the promising jazzman to date originate on the recent German musician label 'Pirouet' which realizes technically and artistically excellent productions in its own studio." - Neue Züricher Zeitung, Switzerland

Profoundly glamorous pieces full of sensuous extremism - full of softly sounding magic. There are songs with ambivalence. Shimmering between extreme feelings and over-sensitiveness, between finding and losing, the proximity of beauty and pain.

Tracks: Resin (John Hebert); Coincidence (Jürgen Friedrich); Versunkene Stadt (Jürgen Friedrich); Whirlygig (John Hebert); Balsam (Jürgen Friedrich); Fagus (Jürgen Friedrich); Karussell (Jürgen Friedrich); Velvet (Jürgen Friedrich)
  • Artists: Jürgen Friedrich, piano; John Hebert, bass; Tony Moreno, drums
Jazz for discoverers of nuances. An unusually wide range of moods, lyrical beauty of the sound development and openness for the moment are the most outstanding characteristics of this trio: versatile, as profound as intoxicating, full of fine chamber music surprises. Outstanding jazz piano trios live not least from the magic of unique connections. The chemistry of the personalities who met each other through lucky coincidence is decisive for the sound. And this chemistry is right in particular with the trio of Jürgen Friedrich (piano), John Hebert (bass) and Tony Moreno (drums) who have been together since 1998. A “Coincidence” – to take a title from the new CD – from which surprising recordings arise again and again. If piano trios are the major domain of chamber music jazz, then the Friedrich Hebert Moreno trio is a jazz chamber music trio par excellence. This is because the high chamber music art of communication, the seismographic reactions to each other, the grasping of musical thoughts and impulses from within one another are mastered by this German-American group in an enthralling and subtle way.
Awards: Music Boom - April 2006; The Irish Times - May 2006; CD of the month: RONDO Magazine (Germany) - June 2006

Over the past few years, Marc Copland has become one of the most sought-after pianist on the international jazz scene. Together, Copland and PIROUET have embarked on a special new project, the “New York Trio Recordings” (NYTR). In the next year or so, three CDs will appear, each recorded in New York with different teams of bassist and drummer. These recordings are being produced by saxophonist and PIROUET program director Jason Seizer, with whom Copland has developed a close artistic relationship over many years of frequent collaboration. The first of the three CDs—“NYTR Vol. 1”—is now available. Copland’s partners in Volume One are bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Bill Stewart. The recording was completed in two extremely creative days in New York’s renowned Bennett Studios. The name Bennett will be immediately recognized by jazz cogniscenti as the surname of Tony Bennett, a contemporary of Frank Sinatra and one of the finest vocal interpreters of the American songbook; and in fact it’s one of Tony’s sons who manages the studio.

Music by an unconventional thinker made for keen thinkers. The programmatic concept of this CD is a real adventure in accessories: bursting with artistically elaborated nuances of atmosphere they are gripping the listener time after time. Rousing, outré, charming, flamboyant and full of hidden meaning is Bill Carrothers' handling of music. Amazing how poignantly he succeeds in transposing the atmosphere and intensity of the songs into his own musical language. With his great potential for the unexpected, Carrothers clearly demonstrates his feeling for exquisiteness: precious gems that should have been long revived.
