Sofia Jannok’s first solo-CD is named White, white as snow. Snow can glimmer in thousands of colors, and it may hide just as many stories. In this whiteness the melodies of this young and aspiring artist shape and move. Sofia’s voice can be quiet and fragile as radiating snow covered plains and at the same time energetic and enormous as a whirling snow storm. The CD is recorded and produced in Oslo, 2006, by the renowned producer Svein Schultz. With his creativity and artistic skills, he has arranged Sofia Jannok’s acapella songs into modern evocative melodies, which bring a new sound into her music. The music, based on a soundboard from the Sami yoik, is a fusion between song, yoik and other styles of music. For Sofia, who is an accomplished live artist, this studio production with its electronic and acoustic sound, is a new experience.
