The main work on the new CD is the song cycle "Japanischer Frühling", which was revised in its orchestral version as late as 1957. The cycle demonstrates Irgens-Jensen's originality and great compositional craft, and is reminiscent of Gustav Mahler's musical style. When Solveig Kringelborn decided to record this work, a milestone in Norwegian music, 30 years had passed since its last release. The CD Further contains a number of songs that have never been released or recorded! Solveig has chosen these songs in close collaboration with the composer's sons. Solveig Kringelborn will be singing the lead in New York's Metropolitan Opera production of Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the end of April and beginning of May.

She opens with Scriabin’s piano sonata no.2, her first meeting with this composer, and subsequently a regular feature of her concert programs. “There is something unique and searching about the work,” the pianist writes in the booklet to her CD. She continues with Rachmaninov, with whom she has “an eternal love-affair.” Tocká is the Russian word for longing. Since the release of this CD, Süssmann has made her debut with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, performed with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and been nominated for the prestigious award of “International Revelation” in conjunction with MIDEM in Cannes.

They have performed them in concert for many years. But now Solveig Kringelborn and Malcolm Martineau have finally released their CD with German lieder. The lineup includes songs by Arnold Schoenberg, Richard Strauss, Richard Wagner, Hugo Wolf and Max Reger – some of the foremost German composers, in other words. It is above all this musical landscape that Solveig Kringelborn has frequented during the past number of years. Kringelborn made such an impression as Eva in Richard Wagner’s “Meistersinger von Nurnberg”, that the New York Times wrote in conjunction with her performance at the Metropolitan Opera: “To hear her sing is like having a bird warm in one’s hand”.
