Chamber Orchestra of Europe/Heinz Holliger
The works by Heinz Holliger collected on this CD allow us an interesting perusal of his oeuvre, from the 1970s to the beginning of the 21st century. Important phases in his compositional development are presented here in a representative manner, with the exception of Holliger’s early oeuvre, which includes works of almost all the genres and is thus already highly varied (ranging from solo pieces to chamber and orchestral works and pieces of music theatre). - (2 CDs)

  • Aura Quartett:
Hiroko Suzuki, Roger Payne, violins; Christian Vaucher, viola; Conrad Wyss, cello; Hans Joerg Fink, piano
Four musicians from three nations established the 'Aura Quartett' in 1992. They are members of the Basel Symphony Orchestra; Hiroko Suzuki is the principal concertmistress, Roger Payne the first violinist, Christian Vaucher plays the viola and Conrad Wyss is the substitute solo cellist. The quartet achieves a particular vibrancy through the internationality of its members; there emerge unusual interpretations in lucid timbres, intensive sonority and virtuoso playing techniques. Musical partners such as the pianists Adrian Oetiker, Gérard Wyss and Hans Joerg Fink, the flautest Peter Lukas Graf, the oboist Omar Zoboli and the Swiss Wind Quintet enrich, amongst other things, a wide-ranging repertoire with chamber music from trio to nonet. The programs incorporate the whole palette of quartet literature, from classic to contemporary.
