Dorothee Oberlinger is one of the most amazing discoveries of recent years, an expressive virtuoso who - quite rightly - received numerous awards while still quite young. Norbert Rodenkirchen is an internationally recognized performer on medieval flutes. Performances with the medieval ensemble Sequentia have taken him to Japan, Australia, Canada, the USA and many European countries where he played in festivals such as the BBC proms at the Royal Albert Hall London, Music Sacrée at Notre Dame de Paris, Lincoln Center New York City, Early Music Boston and many more.
Since 1998, Norbert Rodenkirchen has been also performing on a regular basis with the ensemble Diphona, which he formed with the singer Maria Jonas. The ensemble Diphona has also been invited to important festivals such as Holland Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Romanischer Sommer Köln, Montalbane in Freyburg an der Unstrut and Stary Sacz in Poland.

Arnold Schoenberg composed his string sextet Transfigured Night, which is based on Richard Dehmel’s poem of the same name, in 1899 in less than three weeks. Praised by Anton Webern for the “richness of its themes and their development,” it initially shocked Schoenberg’s contemporaries. Transfigured Night today numbers among Arnold Schoenberg’s most popular works. In its own musically sagacious manner, the Cologne String Sextet (Kölner Streichsextett) has devoted its third recording for RAUMKLANG (marc aurel edition) to works by Richard Strauss and Béla Bartók, as well as to two contemporary works commissioned by the ensemble and an archaic pavane published in 1639 by Andreas Hammerschmidt.

ANONYMOUS - Norbert Rodenkirchen, transverse flute. This disc is an attempt to reconstruct the medieval art of improvisation. There is no written trace of instrumental music before the 13th century. Rodenkirchen must take the extant notated dance pieces and work backwards. The result is captivating.
