Named after an area of Istanbul in which people of different origins, races, religions and cultures have rubbed shoulders since time immemorial, the Pera Ensemble was founded in 2005 by two Istanbul musicians, Mehmet Cemal Yesilcay and Ihsan Özer. The ensemble’s concerts combine the tradition of Ottoman music (with its vocal and instrumental virtuosity) with historical and contemporary European music: their performances are informed by musicological and historical research. |
