This CD is an introduction to Django Reinhardt, his golden hour. If you want a good compilation of Django's most famous recordings, then this is the one for you!
Here you can enjoy the amazing recordings of the gypsy genius in a variety of settings, from the accoustic pre war Quintette du Hot Club de France, to the bebop groups in the 50’s - the quintessence of Django Reinhardt.
The music of the guitar genius Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) is more popular today than ever before. There are Django festivals world wide, and thousands of groups of musicians exploring the infinite possibilities of this nameless music, with so many names: jazz gitane, gypsy jazz, gypsy swing, jazz manouche, sinti swing, etc. Duke Ellington suggested simply to call it "Django music".
But why is this music still so appealing to us? After having listened to this CD introduction to Django's magical world, you may find the answer. Enjoy!

Oscar Aleman's contribution to guitar-jazz is perhaps underestimated, as this highly personal style musician is forgotten outside his native country Argentina.Jon Larsen and Oscar Aleman-specialist Jan Evensmo decided to visit Argentina’s string swingers of the 90's, and found out that Oscar and Django's spirit still is vivid in Buenos Aires. A three nights long jam session, a weeks research in archives of newspapers and visiting relatives resulted in this CD giving tribute to the great Oscar Aleman by his own friends and musicians. A true sensation for admirers of Aleman...

"GLOOMY" is Hot Club de Norvège's tribute to film noir, Parisian detective novels and Django. When it was originally released on LP in 1984 it quickly became a reference recording for the renaissance of the Django music. The veteran violinist Ivar Brodahl (1928-2003) was considered one of Europe's finest, and "Gloomy" is one of his best recordings. Today, a quarter of a century later, Hot Club de Norvège is hotter than ever, and touring world wide like never before. "Gloomy" is a must for all Django entusiasts!

  • Artists: Jon Larsen, guitar; Pascal de Loutchek, guitar
Jon Larsen in combination with Pascal de Loutchek is a perfect match, and they have played together for years. Their Russian inspired music is romantic and impressionistic, but also hard swinging and juicy - this is the music they play in the legendary Russian cabaret’s in Paris (see also Hot Club 46 Matelo Ferret). Acoustic guitar at its most poetical. And it was actually here Jimmy Rosenberg (13) made his debut - the incredible “Jimmy The Kid”! The recording itself is dedicated to the great musicians in the remaining Parisian Russian cabaret.

The best of Jimmy Rosenber, from his very first recordings for Hot Club Records at the age of 13 - already an amazing jazz guitarist, until his most recent sessions. Jimmy made his debut at nine years old in the British film documentary Django’s Legacy, and only four years later he was playing with all the best ones, from Grappelli to Lagrene. Since then he has conquered the musical world, but also become the bohemian bad boy of gypsy jazz…
