Sergio Assad) Artist: Badi Assad, guitar It is certainly not easy to be baby sister of one of the most appreciated guitar duos of our time. It is more difficult when you also happen to play guitar…. With her boundless imagination and creativity Badi Assad has confronted this challenge with a great passion. Born in a small town in rural interior Brazil, Badi enjoyed a childhood drenched in music, surrounded by her father Jorge’s mandolin, her mother Angelina singing tunes and her amazing two guitar playing brothers who would soon be propelled into international stardom. From an adolescent age it was clear that Badi would follow a musical path: at first she let herself be guided by her father into her brothers’ footsteps, but it did not take long for her to begin expanding her musical horizon. She established her own original repertoire, which betrayed an impressive range of influences (popular Brazilian music, ethnic indigenous music, jazz, pop…). She created her own lyrics and compositions. Evermore curious and tireless in her sonoric adventures, Badi Assad soon immersed herself in the world of vocal percussion, gradually incorporating it into her music. She has since succeeded in developing a totally unique style, where guitar and voice merge together intimately and – as if this is not enough – are intensified by the timbre of a variety of percussion instruments and other exotic pipe music. All these musical ingredients make up a remarkable artist who is defined by her originality and cannot fail to touch you. |
