Opera lovers will greet this historic Dresden performance with mixed feelings. Due to incredibly delicate personal relationships during the '40s in Germany, Kempe set out this cast using names/singers that surprised many. Frantz had little experience in the Sachs role at this point. The cast you hear here never actually met on stage but they certainly point to the lamentably fact of present-day Wagner vocal talent compared with recordings like this. ( 4CD )
