The names Liszt, Strauss and Berg inspire great expectations, but recordings of their songs are hardly among them. The reason for this is simple: most amateur musicians and indeed some experts are not aware that Franz Liszt and Alban Berg set songs to music. Only Strauss’ songs have achieved any popularity. And this is what is surprising about this CD: it mixes rarities with repertoire pieces with have maintained a life of their own in the concert hall.

Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, Op. 55 “Eroica”; Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93
  • Orchestra of the KlangVerwaltung/Enoch zu Guttenberg
Beethoven wrote most of his third symphony in late 1803 and completed it in early 1804. The symphony was premiered privately in summer 1804 in Count Lobkowitz’s castle Eisenberg. The first public performance was given in Vienna’s Theater an der Wien on April 7, with the composer conducting. Beethoven referred to it as "my little one." Unusually among Beethoven's works, the Eighth Symphony bears no dedication. Beethoven wrote the symphony 1811 until 1812. The first public performance was given in Vienna, in the "Redoutensaa" on February 2nd 1814.
