The present recordings is an anthology, a selection of Renaissance and baroque music such as was composed and performed at Germany’s courts. Taking the principality of Braunschweig - Wolfenbüttel under Duke Julius and his successor Duke Heinrich Julius as an example, I would like to shed a bit of light on this development in the music, as well as on that of the social standing of the court musicians. The history of the Wolfenbüttel Hofkapelle (court chapel) is richly documented, and musical luminaries such as Michael Praetorius and Gregorio Huwet were active there.

MICHAEL HAYDN: Duets for Violin & Viola: No. 1 in C Major; No. 2 in E Major; No. 3 in F Major; No. 4 in G Major; WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART: Duets for Violin & Viola: G Major, K. 523 & B Flat Major K. 524 - Susanne Lautenbacher, violin; Ulrich Koch, viola - Susanne Lautenbacher was appointed as Professor to teach a violin class at “Stuttgarter Musikhochschule” for over twenty years. Of course, during this time, she did not merely train a generation of young instrumentalists, she decisively has been pursuing a career of particular distinction. It never has been her primary point to be touring concert halls throughout the world and gaining applause by offering merely a number of standard works. She rather has taken pains to introduce such musical oeuvre, that are less favoured in the music business, for instance the sixteen Mystery Sonatas by Ignaz Franz Biber or the violin concertos by Max Reger, Hans Pfitzner, Hans Werner Henze, Kurt Weill and Bernd Alois Zimmermann. Her nearly 200 recordings, ranging from baroque to modern age, naturally, comprise the entire oeuvre for violin by Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and a large part of the romantic literature for violin. Several recordings received international prizes like “Grand prix du Disque”. Susanne Lautenbacher plays a Guamerius del Gesú, Cremona 1742. Uirich Koch was considered to be one of the very pioneers in introducing literature for viola solo in the second half of the last century. Numerous compositions have initially been performed by him. Concert tours took him throughout the world. He has played soloist parts under conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Lorin Maazel, Hans Rosbaud, Ferdinand Leitner, Ernest Bour, Pierre Boulez, Christoph von Dohnany, Darius Milhaud, Jean Francaix and many others. Besides his work as a soloist, for many years he was the head of a master class at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik, Freiburg i.B. In yearly intervals he was also teaching at Masashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo. After retiring he moved to Japan, where he died in 1996.(2 CDs)

Not only that the definite article "das" (the) was correctly chosen in this connection, but also that the "DAS" ("THE"), when properly accentuated, indicates that "DAS" (THE) Rennquintett is by far much superior to all other Rennquintetts, especially pertaining to the high gloss polish of their brass instruments, as well as the hair styles of the musicians...
